Dehns has been working with Q-FREE, a technology company based in Trondheim, Norway, specialising in transportation management, for many years. Dehns Managing Partner, Adrian Samuels and Dehns Trainee Patent Attorney, Martha Stevens recently defended a patent infringement accusation made against Q-FREE and subsequently worked to get the 3rd party’s patents revoked at the NIPO (The Norwegian Industrial Property Office) and the KFIR (Norwegian Industrial Board of Appeal).

The client is a fast-growing SME launching a new, disruptive version of a common, 100-year-old product. The client expects the incumbents to challenge the client’s IP and hinder their progress when their product version hits the market.

The client is a university spin-out based on physics research. They are now a fast-growing SME funded by venture capital.  

When the company formed, they obtained patent rights to their core invention, and   published in leading journals. In the first year of product development, it became clear that there were critical details in the production process that had not been disclosed in the patent applications and scientific publications.  

Dehns attorneys Joseph Letang and Alexandra Nott recently helped a longstanding and valued client of the firm, Palatine Hill AS (a Norwegian company specialising in nutritional products), secure registration for a new brand name in the EU.

Laura Ramsay, Dehns Partner in the Engineering Group, has been working with Strix for 20 years and has acted as their client manager for the last 10 years. Oxford Flow Ltd designs, manufactures and sells industrial pressure regulators using innovative technology to provide new levels of performance for natural gas transmission, water distribution, oil and gas, and process industries.

Dehns has been working with this particular University Technology Transfer Office for almost 10 years.

The TTO had submitted an application for funding for one of their projects but it was initially rejected because they had overlooked the importance of their intellectual property. The IP section of their funding application was deemed inadequate so they asked for our help.
