Dehns client, Blackout Technologies, is making headlines with its groundbreaking work in limiting smartphone use in schools. Recently featured in The Times, on BBC Radio 4 and other news outlets, the company is gaining well-deserved recognition for its innovative approach.
Blackout Technologies has developed cutting-edge security and compliance solutions that regulate smart device usage in designated areas, preventing access to social media and other non-essential apps.
Since 2017, Rob Jackson, Partner in Dehns’ Technology, Software and Engineering Group has worked closely with Blackout to protect their intellectual property around the world. This has included an initial U.S. filing, a PCT application, and securing patents in multiple countries, including the U.S., Australia, Canada, the EPO (Unitary Patent, UK, and Spain), and Singapore, with additional applications pending.
A recent BBC news feature highlights Blackout’s ongoing trial in three Surrey schools, where its app is helping to block distracting notifications and harmful content during school hours. The initiative aims to enhance student focus, reduce cyber-bullying and support mental well-being.
