James joined Dehns in September 2024, after obtaining a PhD in Physical and Theoretical Chemistry from the University of Oxford that same year. His thesis utilised Coulomb explosion imaging to study ultrafast photodissociation reactions in a variety of few-atom systems. Prior to starting his PhD he graduated from Newcastle University with an integrated masters degree in Chemistry, where he achieved First Class Honours. In his final year he completed a research project which involved teaching a deep neural network to simulate X-ray absorption spectra.
James works with a wide variety of clients including small, medium and large sized enterprises, universities and multinational companies.
James has experience in all aspects of chemistry, with his specialty being subjects on the border between chemistry and physics, in particular photodissociation reactions, photo-induced isomerisations, molecular spectroscopy, and reactions occurring on ultrafast timescales.
